Each square of the matrix represents an argument that will be explored with the participants through lectures, power-point presentations, simulations, role-play, video and feedbacks.
After introducing a principle, a theory or a problem, (1) participants are shown a relevant video simulation.
Next, instructors facilitate a discussion, focusing on the goals and the agenda of the actors, and the more common mistakes people commit in those situations.
Subsequently, participants are divided into groups and receive instructions for a role play exercise, so as to experiment with what they have seen on video and discussed.
Finally, after observing the role plays, instructors provide participants with constructive feedback for areas of improvement.
The opportunity to experience regular interactions with mediators from all over the world is a priceless privilege, and perhaps even a prerequisite to be able to train effectively in a multidisciplinary field such as mediation and conflict management. At the end of the course – and once passing the final test – each trainee will become ‘ADR Center Accredited Mediator’.
This course is designed to teach mediators the skills required to be able to conduct complex mediations and understand how to work with special and challenging mediation situations.
Building mediation training capacity is an important and necessary step toward helping create a qualified cadre of mediators in a specific local context.
